Gauteng Tourism is again participating in the Rand Show, with a view to encouraging attendees to travel more and explore the many visitor attractions. The show, which attracts about 300 000 visitors every year, takes place this year from March 30 to April 8 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
Gauteng Tourism has been associated with the Rand Show for many years because of the magnitude of the marketing platform it provides, says Spokesman, Barba Gaoganediwe. “The Rand Show is an important event for us as it allows us to showcase our capabilities of hosting big MICE events. It provides us with an opportunity to cement our positioning as a leading MICE destination in Africa and, indeed, the world. The Johannesburg Expo Centre is a world-class venue with state-of-the-art telecommunications connectivity that includes a fibre-optic cable network and satellite teleport infrastructure that few can match.”
Craig Newman, CEO of Johannesburg Expo Centre, adds: “Gone are the days of erecting massive displays and simply handing pamphlets to people. We need to immerse our customers in the experience of the venue. I encourage visitors to come to the Rand Show and see the magnitude of the venue, see what we are able to offer.”
Most importantly, says Gaoganediwe, the event will provide market access opportunities for township products. The Department of Economic Development has secured space to trade and exhibit its products and services for several township businesses.
