SANParks contests City Press tender allegations

SANParks has refuted the statement made in the Auditor General’s report in yesterday’s (February 5, 2012) City Press article that claims it awarded tenders worth R3,5 million to its officials and close relatives.

SANParks will be contacting the office of the Auditor General to ascertain the validity of the statements made in the media report.

Chief Financial Officer of SANParks, Themba Mabilane, said the information it presented to the office of the Auditor General stated that the R3,5 million irregular expenditure as highlighted by the report, arose due to the organisation entering into contracts with suppliers in the last three years that had an accumulated value of R500 000 on a three quotations request instead of going out to open tender.

It also wishes to put it on record that none of those companies or entities is owned by either SANParks employees or their close families.
