Springbok Atlas buys Namibian tour operator

OLYMPIA Reisen Namibia, a well-known regional operator due to the fact that it was one of the first foreign tourist companies to enter the country after Independence in 1990 and because it won the Skeleton Coast Concession Tender from Skeleton Coast Safaris (the late Louw Schoeman ) in 1992, has been purchased by Springbok Atlas.
The anouncement of the sale effective November 1, was made in a joint statement released by the manager of Olympia Reisen Namibia, Kurt Steinhausen, and Springbok Atlas' Martin Wiemers which said that all Olympia's block bookings would be taken over by the SA-based coach operator.
The other investments of Olympia Reisen, Europahof Hotel in Swakopmund and Oropoko Lodge near Okahandja are not affected by the arrangement, neither is the Skeleton Coast Concession which runs until 2002 and is now operated jointly with Wilderness Safaris.
