MEMBERS of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) board have committed themselves to growing the Tourism Marketing Levy (Tomsa), says Mmatšatši Marobe, ceo of TBCSA.
Marobe said the board agreed, at a meeting recently held in Johannesburg, that the levy was an important contribution by private sector role players in the tourism industry to government’s initiative of marketing South Africa.
Since its inception in 1999, the Tomsa levy has raised a total of R414m says Marobe. Some board members have agreed to put measures in place to ensure that more industry members contribute towards Tomsa. Marobe says this will put more financial muscle into South African Tourism’s marketing budget and ensure more players take part in transforming the industry.
