The Onyx, a luxury hotel managed by Newmark Hotel, Residences, Reserves & Lodges, is set to open in Cape Town on December 1.
The hotel forms part of an innovative, mixed-use building in Cape Town’s Foreshore, conveniently located on Heerengracht Street directly opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The building has been transformed under the creative guidance of one of Cape Town’s leading architects, Robert Silke, together with luxury property development company, Signatura. Its exteriors feature curves and white aluminum-clad balconies, contrasted with the black surfaces that allude to the building’s namesake, onyx – a striking gemstone, similar in appearance to black sapphire.
The hotel comprises 102 apartment-style rooms that include studios, deluxe studios, one- and two- bedroom apartments and deluxe one-bedroom apartments.
Styled by interior decorator, Francois du Plessis, each studio and apartment features top-end furnishings, finishes and comforts. A fully equipped kitchen, complete with appliances by leading brands, will allow for easy in-room dining and high levels of convenience.
The fourth floor features a bar, lounge, relaxation area, gym facilities, an indoor-outdoor swimming pool with views of Cape Town and Table Mountain, and a spa managed by Sanctuary Signature Spas.
The building is also home to a new, trendy restaurant, MRKT – also set to open on December 1. it will serve a selection of fresh, wholesome breakfast and lunch items, including harvest-inspired buffet offerings. MRKT comprises a barista station, bakery and a deli section, and will be open to the public. An Asian-style restaurant and sake bar will open in the first quarter of 2019.
