Tourism website dogged by pornographic 'hijackers'

THE Durban/eThekwini unicity council is taking action against a company accused of hijacking the council's website, specifically the link to the tourism website, www.durbanexperience.co.za. If Internet users go via the Durban city council's site and use the hyperlink to this site they will be confronted with images of men and women in various sexual poses. A spokesperson for Durban Africa, which manages the durbanexperience.co.za website says however that users going directly to this address can access the correct site. It therefore appears as if only the durban.gov.za link has been tampered with. TNN was able to access the durbanexperience site without any problems. An article which appeared in the Natal Mercury on January 30, indicates that the alleged hijacker - a Canadian company - is in turn demanding a payment of US$1 000 (approximately R11 400) before it will relinquish the site.
