TravelHub Daily Alert: Reminder of Zuma court decision and Oxford Road reopens

Zuma supporters to gather in Pietermaritzburg

A REMINDER that supporters of ANC president Jacob Zuma will be gathering in Pietermaritzburg from Thursday ahead of Friday’s court decision on whether the corruption charges against him are to be declared unconstitutional. A night vigil is to be held in Freedom Square on Thursday night and picketing is expected outside the High Court on Friday. Celebration or protest marches are expected to follow, depending on the judge’s decision.

Thousands of supporters are expected, causing disruptions to downtown Pietermaritzburg on Thursday and Friday. Police have assured that security will be tight and that it will be business as usual as far as possible. Sections of the following roads will be closed on Friday: Longmarket Street, Commercial Road, Church Street, Boschoff Street, Henrietta Street and Archbell Street.

Oxford Road reopens

Oxford Road in Rosebank has reopened after a section of the road collapsed during Gautrain construction between North Road and 8th Avenue in July. Sections of the busy Johannesburg road have been closed over the last two months while repairs were being done. The Gautrain station along with a planned Bus Rapid Transit system with routes through Rosebank are set to make the area a transport hub, connecting it to the airport, Sandton, the CBD, Randburg and Soweto.
