Tshekedi Khama pushes for Botswana levy

Botswana’s Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Tshekedi Khama, has requested the Tourism Development Levy (TDL) collection to be regarded as a matter of urgency.

He recently argued in parliament that if the fund could be collected now, tourism sites could be developed to better facilitate visitors to the country.

Botswana’s TDL was put on hold this year in May with legislators citing lack of consultation.

The discussion is expected to resume soon at the general assembly. Botswana Tourism Organisation's Communications Manager, Keitumetse Setlang, said the new commencement date of the TDL would be announced in due course.
