Uber tests mobile transport app in Johannesburg

Uber has started piloting its mobile transport application in Johannesburg.

The US-based company says the app lets users request and arrange transport in the city using their mobile devices. Car availability may be limited during the trial phase, the company has warned.

The service is expected to launch in Cape Town at a later stage.

At present, local start-up, Zapacab, operates a similar service in Cape Town, with plans to roll out in Durban, Johannesburg and the rest of Africa.
