Zanzibar is set to introduce a wildlife park as part of an investment and conservation initiative in the Jambiani Muyuni Forest Reserve.
Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Pindi Chana, met with the Board of Directors and Management of the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) on June 25 to discuss proposed investment opportunities in the reserve.
The meeting was led by the Chairman of the TAWA Board, Hamis Semfuko, and included a presentation outlining plans for the establishment of the proposed Zanzibar Wildlife Park.
According to Semfuko, the idea for the wildlife park stemmed from TAWA’s participation in the Kizimkazi Festival where public interest in wildlife viewing was high.
He stated that the planned park will be modern in design and it will aim to increase tourist arrivals while creating job opportunities for residents in Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.
