Bontebok National Park in the Western Cape has completed most repairs after severe flooding of the Breede River caused widespread damage in May.
The flood resulted in damage to some of the park’s chalets and the picnic site and caused near-complete destruction of the main access road to the accommodation area. The estimated cost of repairs is R12.3 million (US$760 000).
The road has been fully repaired as well as six of the park’s chalets, the camp site and three hiking trails (Aloe Hills, Acacia and Termite). Repairs are still underway on the two remaining chalets, the picnic site and the Bushbuck and Ou Tuin hiking trails.
